City-Works Speaker and Forum Series
As part of its mission, City-Works connects New Orleans communities with educational resources to sustain citizen engagement in the planning and rebuilding processes. The City-Works speaker series has brought to our audiences local and national experts in sustainable design and development to present on best practices and models in development and design. Panel topics have included a debriefing on the UNOP Process by UNOP authors, an introduction to Main Streets in New Orleans, best practices of sustainable redevelopment with former Mayor of Honolulu Jeremy Harris, Smart growth expert Storm Cunningham, bolstering New Orleans' Cultural Economy with the city's top creative industries practitioners, and best practices of affordable housing with Avi Friedman, an international expert on Low Income Housing.
In the coming months, City-Works plans to bring the speaker series to neighborhood organization gatherings across the city in order to be accessible to a broader audience of neighborhood civic leaders. Additionally, City-Works plans to begin recording these forums for airing on public access stations. |
